SHIMOGA: Bhadravati rural police busted a scam relating to fake marks cards, convocation certificates and answer sheets in the Kuvempu University on Tuesday morning and arrested six people.
Based on a tip-off, the team led by Dy SP Sridhar raided houses of employees at Shankarghatta, B R Project, Tarikere and Lakkavalli and arrested contract worker Devaraj, second divisional clerk at SDP section, L Ramu, second divisional assistant at Examination section, Dudya Naik, attender Shashikumar, second divisional clerk at Biotechnology department, Shivakumar, and SDC at examination section Siddacharya.
Police also confiscated 2,000 answer sheets, blank marks cards and convocation certificates, 150 seals, lamination machines and 22 lakh cash.
Police raided the house of attender Devaraj where they found answer sheets and other materials.
Based on his information, more employees were arrested.
When there was an allegation against KHB engineer Haleshappa regarding the fake marks cards, then registrar (Evaluation) Rame Gowda had complained to the Bhadravati police.
The issue was also discussed at the syndicate meeting and it was decided to handover the case to CID.
But the Examination Section was dilly-dallying on the decision.
During investigation, police got clues of the racket, where students were charged for high marks, and busted it.
It is said that the accused had networks in Shimoga and Chikmagalur districts where they issued fake marks cards, entered marks in marks cards and changed answer sheets.
They used to bring answer sheets of students to their homes and at a secret location at Shankarghatta, they made students write papers again to be inserted into answer sheet bundles after decoding.
The accused networked with employees of colleges in both the districts. (TNIE)
